Start your journey today!
Pregnancy is a special time in the life of a woman and her family. During our prenatal visits I will be your guide to help you develop a plan, to help you achieve a place where you feel physically, mentally and spiritually ready to birth.
Having a baby should be an undisturbed, sacred experience, so my focus is on creating a safe space for you to bring your baby into the world.
I will stay in close contact with you after your birth to provide support and encouragement as you navigate motherhood with your baby.
“Pregnancy, birth and motherhood are full of gifts, tears and challenges.
Enjoy the gifts,
Share the tears,
And embrace the challenges,
For you are woman, and therefore strong!”
- Robyn Dempsey
I have always believed that women deserve to give birth in a calm, undisturbed environment, supported by those who believe in her and surrounded by love.
Every woman is an individual, and every pregnancy journey is different, and brings with it new challenges.
As a midwife with over 30 years’ experience attending women for their pregnancy, birth and postnatal journey, I like to think I bring a wealth of knowledge and caring to the birth space.
I have 3 children of my own, and one grandchild, all born at home, with the gentle care of a midwife.
As a registered nurse and an endorsed registered midwife I am able to write referrals for blood work and ultrasound scanning.
Registration number - NMW: 0001285964
I am also a Medicare eligible midwife, which means you may be able to claim a Medicare benefit for my services.
Pregnancy care:
Visits are held in my clinic in North Ryde,
Visits are as follows:
· Starting at around 12 weeks,
· monthly to 30 weeks,
· 2 weekly until 36 weeks
· Weekly until 41 weeks.
· After 41 weeks visits are twice a week until baby comes.
Your visit is around an hour long. I like to check your blood pressure, urine (if necessary) and baby; we spend most of the time talking about you, the pregnancy and exploring your journey.
I do ask that you book into your local maternity hospital, so, that if a transfer is needed, it goes more smoothly.
Birth care:
We will have discussed when to call the midwife, and I will come at this time. As we are required by law to have two midwives at a birth at home, the 2nd midwife will arrive closer to the birth.
I monitor you and your baby during your labour, and carry emergency equipment in case of an unexpected outcome.
One of the midwives will stay about 3-4 hours after the birth.
If you need to be transferred to hospital, one of the midwives will go with you, and stay until it is appropriate to leave. I provide all the necessary paperwork associated with birth registration.
Postnatal care:
Visits are in your home daily for around 6-8 visits, depending on your needs. I also include a 6 week visit. The 6 week visit is held in the midwife's clinic.
From the day you book until 6 weeks after the baby is born, I am on call for you 24/7. .
I only work with 2-4 women per month. If you think you would like to engage my service, please don't hesitate to ring me for more information.
